Yampa Valley College Alumni
Before Colorado Mountain College Steamboat Springs existed, the citizens of Steamboat Springs, inspired by Lucy Bogue’s vision of a college in their community, worked to establish Yampa Valley College, a four year degree granting, accredited, college.
Welcoming students from across the country – and the world – Yampa Valley College’s diverse student body enjoyed an education rich in global perspective. Arriving before there was a stop light or a ski industry, or even much of a town, these first students – and their teachers – together forged the foundation for higher education in Steamboat Springs. They also formed a unique bond as pioneers, facing the struggles and unknowns of a fledgling college finding its way.
Fifty years later those students and many of their instructors remain passionate about Steamboat Springs and their experience here – and remain connected through in-person reunions and social media. Established by generous gifts from Yampa Valley College alumni, the Yampa Valley College Pioneers Scholarship is their legacy – a gift to current students of CMC Steamboat Springs.
