Shirley and Richard Hunt

Shirley and Richard Hunt

Shirley and Richard “Dick” Hunt were longtime residents of the Roaring Fork Valley. As a youth, Dick’s family moved a lot and he attended 6 different high schools but never graduated. Yet, he enrolled in the Missouri School of Mines and completed a degree in geophysics. Shirley attended Washington University at St. Louis, but had to interrupt her studies to work and support her family. She and Dick met on a blind date, fell in love, married and enjoyed 70 years together. Dick’s work in the oil patch brought him to Colorado where they eventually settled and raised a family. They both strongly believed in the power of education to improve lives. In 1999 they established a scholarship at CMC for students who’ve earned a Graduate Equivalency Degree (GED). They were both lifelong learners and took many classes at CMC. Through a generous estate gift, they have endowed this scholarship in perpetuity, to support students to pursue their educational goals.
