Kathy and Carter Barger

Kathy and Carter Barger

Kathy and Carter Barger moved to Carbondale after living 42 years in New Hampshire. Both have long believed in giving back to their community.
Kathy, a fundraising consultant, served on various boards including Chair of N.H. Public Radio and as a founder of the N.H. Women’s Foundation. She also served as Board President of the Concord Y.M.C.A. Carter had a 35-year career as an executive search consultant with Barger & Sargeant, Inc. He served as a Concord Hospital Trustee and as President of the Concord Rotary Club.
Both were committed to finding interests here in Colorado. Kathy attended a CMC community read program and was impressed with the Spring Valley campus, its students, and offerings. She joined the Scholarship Committee and found the application process comprehensive and heartwarming for Hispanic and first-generation students who want to better their lives. Kathy joined the CMC Foundation board and shared her development skills for several capital campaigns, most recently the Bushong Student Center and nursing simulation center. She is former Foundation Vice Chair and has served on the Board for seven years. In addition, Carter served on the Homeowners Association at Aspen Glen Board of Directors for five years and now is a Director of the Roaring Fork Water and Sanitation District Board.
Both are grateful their families could afford to send them to college. Today, that is prohibitive for many families, and the Barger Family Endowed Scholarship will be forever available to a deserving student in the Roaring Fork Valley. It is especially joyful to establish this gift with Colorado Mountain College. Their alma mater was established in 1851 and has built a far-reaching endowment. The Bargers are grateful to be in this Valley and have found their gift will make a greater impact here. Giving back is a bonus in life!
