James Calaway

James Calaway

James Calaway came from a family of tenant farmers. Born during the depression, Jim grew up in a household where nobody ever spoke of education. As Jim states “this made me a very determined person” even though no one in his family attended college, he graduated from high school and attended the University of Texas receiving a law degree. Jim became a self-made man, starting is own company at age 23. At age 40 he realized that wealth was not the driving factor for his passion, and so, bit by bit, Jim transformed himself into the humanitarian and philanthropist that he is today. Jim’s interests include everything from the Democratic National Committee, Habitat for Humanity, the American Red Cross, the Jimmy Carter Library and several Universities. Two of Jim’s biggest philanthropic passions are animals and education.
Jim is a large supporter and the instigator of the Colorado Animal Rescue “CARE” shelter located adjacent to the Colorado Mountain College Spring Valley Campus. He has also been a supported for scholarship for first generation college students.
