Colorado Women Flyfishers

Karen Williams was a long-time member of the Colorado Women Flyfishers (CWF). She was the first to lend a helping hand to ladies just learning to fish, first to volunteer for any variety of club activities, and served in several Board positions. She lived her life well, with generosity, gratitude and humility. In 2020 Karen was diagnosed with Stage 3 lung cancer, which took her life quickly. The CWF honor the memory of Karen and her dedication to helping women learn, and enjoy fly-fishing, with this $500 scholarship. Colorado Women Flyfishers, established in 1997, is a 501©3 organization comprised of women who fly fish. The Mission Statement of the club is to promote, encourage and educate women in the sport and ethics of fly fishing. It is a unique and sociable club that offers endless opportunities for female anglers who are 18 years or older of all abilities to enhance their fly fishing skills in a fun, safe and relaxed atmosphere.
Further to honoring Karen’s immeasurable spirit, it is the hope of CWF that the Karen Williams Memorial Scholarship Recipient carries Karen’s momentum forward by promoting participation of women in the sport via professional guiding of women anglers, working in the flyfishing industry in some capacity and promoting women in the sport, providing support and education to women anglers, or by participating in volunteer activities that support women or veterans in the sport of flyfishing.
