Christy Hill
Christy Hill was one of the first full-time residents of Vail. It was the love of skiing that brought her here, but also, the adventure of building a new ski town. She founded Vail’s first ski shop and designed the first ski school uniform among many other things.
Christy touched many people’s lives, some of whom became Vail residents thanks to her. Vail remained her home for the rest of her life, and from her house at the top of Bridge Street she saw her town grow into a world-famous ski resort.
She was passionate about learning and supported many people in their pursuit of higher education. The Christy Hill Scholarship will continue this tradition. Her generous gift will keep her memory and adventurous spirit alive with CMC students who never had the chance to know her.
Impact
The Christy Hill Scholarship celebrates the legacy of Blanche “Christy” Hill, one of Vail’s most prominent pioneers. Starting in the 1960s, Christy’s sense of adventure and influence helped shape a fledging town and ski area into what it is today. As Vail grew, she was among those who helped create the community, from its school to its medical center.
Her curiosity was ever present, and she was convinced that education is the foundation of a good society. In that spirit, the Christy Hill Scholarship supports students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in education, providing opportunities for the next generation of talented teachers in the Vail Valley and beyond.
